SAKINA
Pod

سكينة

A sealed, climate-controlled immersive rest capsule — black anodised aluminium and smoked acrylic, designed and, once finalized, manufactured in Amman by Nplay. A black monolith that opens: silent, sealed and cool inside.

01

The Idea

From ten metres, SAKINA Pod reads as a solid, dark, quietly mysterious object — no visible hardware, no handle, no hinge, no vent grille, no branding beyond a single etched wordmark. It is a shape, not a machine. It reveals itself in three moves, and the whole design exists to make those three moves feel expensive.

The light channel breathes

A continuous line of light traces the full outline of the door and pulses slowly — six cycles a minute, the pace of a resting breath. Visible from the end of a corridor.

The door glides

A single curved acrylic panel slides on a linear rail over two and a half seconds, with a soft-close at each end. No handle to pull, no hinge to swing, no sound.

Cold outside, warm inside

Smoked acrylic reads as opaque black when the interior is dark, and turns into a glowing lantern when the interior lighting comes up — the same panel is both a wall and a window.

02

Colour, Material, Finish

Two blacks, one warm grey, two accents and a warm white. Nothing else — the restraint is deliberate, and it is what makes the object read as considered rather than assembled.

Door & front band10mm cast acrylic (PMMA), smoke tint at 15% visible light transmission, flame-polished edges left exposed so they carry the internal light.

Five Light States, One Interface

SAKINA Pod has one continuous light system with five states, and the states are the interface. A user should never need to be told what the Pod is doing.

Ready

Electric blue, breathing at 6 cycles per minute. Touch the line to open.

Opening / closing

A blue sweep that travels with the door

In session

Magenta, steady, no breathing. Occupied — readable at twenty metres.

Purging

White, slow sweep. The 60-second air flush between users.

Fault / service

Blue double pulse every 4 seconds. Nothing alarming, nothing red.

Safety & Access

A lockable door has to satisfy both a corporate buyer who wants privacy and a safety officer whose occupant is wearing a head-mounted display and cannot see the room. Four provisions do it.

Fail-safe unlocked

The latch is held by power. Loss of mains, loss of control, fire-alarm interface or emergency stop releases it instantly. A locked Pod cannot exist without electricity.

Interior mechanical release

A single unpowered lever inside the door frame opens the door by hand from within, regardless of the state of every electronic system.

Exterior staff override

A recessed key or badge override on the exterior releases the latch and drives the door open, available to any authorised staff member at any time, with no software involved.

The occupant is always visible

The acrylic is tinted, not opaque. With the interior lit — which it always is when occupied — a person outside can see that someone is inside and can see them move.

06

Design Discipline

A short list of things the design deliberately does not do — because each one, if it crept in, would turn the Pod into an appliance instead of a refuge.

"Rest, engineered."

Frequently Asked Questions

What is SAKINA Pod?

SAKINA Pod is a sealed, single-person, climate-controlled capsule designed by Nplay to give people a short, private space to rest and reset using immersive VR content — with a powered sliding door, active air filtration and a five-state light system that shows its status at a glance.

Is SAKINA Pod available to buy yet?

Not yet. SAKINA Pod is in design development in Amman — dimensions and component selections are indicative until the design is frozen with the fabricator. We're looking for partners to help take it from concept to production.

How does SAKINA Pod relate to Nplay VR for Hospitals?

SAKINA Pod is designed, in part, as the physical hardware that could house Nplay's calming VR concept for hospital patients — a sealed, quiet space built around the same idea that immersive content can meaningfully ease pain and anxiety during medical procedures.

Is the capsule safe to be locked inside?

Locking is optional, and even when enabled it is designed with four independent safety provisions: the latch is fail-safe and releases on any loss of power, there is an unpowered mechanical release lever inside the door, staff have an exterior override at all times, and the tinted (not opaque) acrylic means an occupant is always visible from outside.

Where is SAKINA Pod designed and built?

SAKINA Pod is designed in Amman, Jordan by Nplay for Interactive Solutions, and will be manufactured there once the design is finalized with a fabricator.
